Made this to honor my husband who served in Viet Nam

Thinking about Memorial Day today,
after my husband commented how busy the highway
was on his way home from town.
Everybody is going somewhere this weekend
to celebrate Memorial Day.
We typically don't do any celebrating as such.
It is more a quiet day....a day of thinking about Memorial Day
and those who have gone before us.
We have had many family members who have served,
on both sides of the family, including my husband who
was in Viet Nam. They have all come home
after their service, pretty much unharmed. Makes me
wonder why some are chosen to die, and others are not,
I have heard of some families who have lost more
than one family member,
some even 3 and 4 members of the same family.
What is their Memorial Day like?
How do they spend this holiday?
Freedom is not free.
It is impossible to put a price on it or measure it in any way,
other than by counting the ones who lost their life
in defending that freedom. Other things are hard to measure too........the pain that soldiers and their families
 have been through,physical,emotional,spiritual,
missed opportunities for those who had plans,
dreams of coming home and building a family,
 a home or a career.
The one thing I find IMPOSSIBLE TO EXPRESS IS THE AMOUNT OF GRATITUDE
I have for those who lost their lives,
the families who waited for them,
to those who are having to serve as we speak.
 War is Hell......Freedom isn't Free!
That's what I will be thinking about

Millicent

Today Millicent joined our group of Bag Lady embroideries. She is a bit eccentric in her clothing, but a bag lady has to wear whatever she finds to wear. She checks out the local thrift store every week and puts together these amazing outfits. I love the colors she chose! She is a sweetheart of a gal, but just a little bit timid. She loves her Friday nights at the Bag Lady Club at the local quilt shop, remember Fat Quarters are only .99 cents on Friday nights.
Wouldn't you just love to stitch her? I forgot to mention she carries her cat Thimble in her jumper pocket, she is kind of scraggly but she is good company for Millicent.

You can join our Bag Ladies of the Fat Quarter Club anytime. Just go to www,chickadeehollowdesigns.com and click on the Category to the left.

Chickadee Chatter: We Are Back, Finally!

Chickadee Chatter: We Are Back, Finally!

Happy Stitching! Carol

We Are Back, Finally!

We have pretty much settled into our new studio and home. I have a little bit left to unpack, but I am eager to get started on something fun.It has been a long 14 months since our fire, and even though I had a lot of time to think, I wasn't able to accomplish a lot. There just wasn't room and not a lot of time. Designing a home, shopping for furnishing and building supplies, making a inventory of our previous home and dealing with the insurance company, pretty much took all of my time. But, I am willing to put all of that behind me and start fresh, as there is no point in dwelling on the facts. I was lucky enough to have seven pieces of my quilting out on a trunk show at the time of the fire, so that was all I salvaged. So, I need to make some new samples. I have a plan for the first sample that I am going to re-do and I will tell you about it in a minute.
But first of all I feel like I need to say these things, thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who have given me fabric, scraps, quilting supplies, books, etc. It was definitely enough to get me started again. I am very grateful to all of you. To those of you who were in BOM's that w had to discontinue, (because we lost all of our supplies), we will work toward restoring what you have missed, however, I can not make any promises as to time, etc. For those of you who had your orders lost or burned in the fire, we hope that we have replaced or refunded anything that you did not receive. Most recently with being closed, to make the move, we hope that you can understand any delays, mistakes etc. We lost a large bunch (in the thousands) of emails that we had in different files etc that we were saving for various reasons. Your email may have been one that we did not respond to, because it was lost. Coincidentally, our email service made a switch over to a new system right about the time we were moving into our new building, and we lost many email files that we were never able to recover.. To say these past 14 months have been a challenge is an understatement, but I ask for no sympathy. It is what it was! Notice the past tense. It is over and I am on to my new life. I thank God for our lives  and our new home, and a chance to start over.To my faithful customers,
you have remained true and been very supportive. You are the best! OK, so here is a little blurb about the first thing I am going to do and I have decided to ask any of you who might be interested to join me on this short journey. One of the quilts that I lost in the fire was one of my favorites, and it is the one that reminds me most of Spring. It is also a interesting technique that some of you may be interested in. It is called "Sunshine & Stars." The technique for this one is called "pot holder quilting." Here is a picture of it:
                                  Sunshine & Stars
If you are interested in doing a Quilt Along with  me, please drop me an email, csteff46@tds.net. We are planing on allowing 3 months to do it, we will make kits
if you are interested. It is a great Take A Long project.
