Bluebirds & Quilts

Bluebird On A Fence Post
Yeah!! January is over and it won't be long and we will be seeing the bluebirds checking out their nesting spots. If you have bluebirds who typically nest in your yard or nearby, do them a favor and clean out their houses for them. If the weather gets nice, you can see them as early as March.
This is a pencil sketch that I did a while back and I also used some watercolor touches on it. It just reminds me so much of spring that I just had to share it with you today to hopefully make it seem like Spring is not that far off. Our Winter started early this year the first of December we already had snow on the ground and it was bitter cold and it has continued through January except for about a week when we had a break of 30 degree weather. So we are ready!!!!
I will be posting some more of my Spring Ornaments, by the end of the week, which by the way are called the Heirloom Ornament line.
Thanks for checking in.
Happy Stitching! Carol

  1. Hollyhocks and bluebirds - it doesn't get any better than that! Thanks for sharing your sketch. We have had more than our share of a true winter down here in the south this year, too, so I am very glad January is behind us. We can already think about spring arriving soon, and lucky for us, the bluebirds never leave. Mom always said the birds get married on St Valentine's Day, so their houses are ready and waiting for occupancy. At the moment we are receiving LOTS of rain - still coming down and more forecast for next week. Have a great weekend! Vivian (Thimblevee)

  3. I live in NW Georgia near the TN-AL lines in a small community called Flintstone! Birdwatching and feeding is a favorite pasttime. They are my bright spot on dark winter days. Lots of Cardinals, Blue Jays, Juncos, Phoebes, Chickadees, Sparrows, Wrens, Finches and Towhees, Brown Thrashers, Nuthatches & Woodpeckers. The Bluebirds are not so active except when I put out fruit & raisins or the ground is thawed and full of tasty bugs & worms. I think you MNsotans have sent us a bit more of your winter weather than is usual for us this year. We will definitely be ready for Spring soon! Vivian

  4. Sounds like you have wonderful birdwatching all year long.Yes, birdwatching and feeding helps keep the winter blues away. We probably did send a bit of winter your way, but only because we have more than our share. Just got another 12 inches last night and it is still snowing, next will come the wind and cold. A viscious cycle til spring, but I wouldn't live anywhere else. At least we don't have to worry about sliding into an ocean, or being flooded with hurricanes. Thanks for your comment.
